Sophomore Maya Dennis won 4th place in headline writing at the UIL Regional competition, which took place in Lubbock on April 7 and 8.

Nine students from Braswell advanced to Regionals in six different categories at the district meet March 4.

Several students advanced for debate. Sophomore Anna Sargent placed 3rd in Lincoln-Douglas debate, freshman Celeste Kalmbach placed 2nd in informative speaking, sophomore Maddie Anderson placed 3rd in informative speaking, sophomore Ryan Fields placed 2nd in persuasive speaking and sophomore Katie Watkins placed 3rd in persuasive speaking.

“You answer the question yes or no based on your opinion and then you convince the judges [that] your opinion is right,” Fields said.

Two students advanced in ready writing. Junior Jazmyn Franklin placed 2nd and junior Dede Pajibo placed 3rd.

Along with Dennis, junior Brittney Dear advanced in journalism. Dear placed in all four journalism events, and advanced to Regionals in news, feature and headline writing.

Watkins and Dennis have the possibility of advancing to the state meet in Austin if one of the top three finalists in District 4 drops out.
